White sangria recipe in a pitcher with oranges, limes, berries, and mint

This summer, this white sangria recipe is the pitcher cocktail I can’t stop making. It’s crisp, bright, and refreshing, a delicious blend of white wine, orange liqueur, and fresh fruit. I sometimes add a little peach schnapps to make it even fruitier, but it’s also lovely with just a touch of simple syrup for sweetness. A handful of mint rounds out the fresh summer flavors.

It’s the perfect drink for summer entertaining. This easy white sangria recipe makes a whole pitcher and is designed to make ahead. Peaches, berries, and citrus infuse the wine with fruity flavor as it chills overnight in the fridge.

While I love a classic red sangria, in my heart of hearts, I’m a white wine person. So this year, instead of making my red sangria recipe for spring and summer gatherings, I started experimenting with this white wine version. Friends, I’m officially obsessed. The light, dry flavor of the white wine pairs so well with the peaches and berries in this drink. It’s such a crowd pleaser on a hot day!

What is the best white wine for sangria?

The best wine for this white sangria recipe is a light-bodied, dry, and crisp white wine. I typically use a Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc.

Just like when you’re making red wine sangria, there’s no need to break the bank with a top-shelf, expensive bottle. We’re diluting it with water, orange liqueur, etc., so a decent-quality, reasonably priced wine is what I’d recommend.

How to Make White Sangria

1. The first step in this recipe is preparing the fruit. I use a mix of peaches, oranges, limes, and raspberries and/or strawberries. Wash all the fruit well, then pit and slice the peaches, slice the citrus into thin rounds, and chop the strawberries. Place the fruit in a large pitcher and add the mint.

2. Next, mix the sangria. Pour in the wine, orange liqueur like Grand Marnier or Cointreau, and water, then add simple syrup or peach schnapps for extra sweetness. Stir to combine, then taste it. If you’d like it to be boozier, stir in more orange liqueur.

3. Chill the sangria overnight to allow the fruit to infuse the wine with flavor.

4. To serve the sangria, pour it into glasses filled with ice, making sure to get a few pieces of fruit in each glass. Garnish with fresh mint, and serve!

Make-Ahead Tips

This recipe is designed to be made ahead. It tastes best after it chills overnight in the fridge! A few tips:

  • The peaches will brown overnight. I sometimes add two when I mix it up for flavor and save one to add just before serving so that it stays vibrant.
  • Taste it twice. The most important step in any cocktail recipe is tasting and adjusting it to your liking. I recommend tasting this sangria twice—once just after you mix it up and once after it chills. At both points, you can add more orange liqueur for a boozier sangria or extra simple syrup for sweetness. If it’s too strong after it chills, feel free to dilute it with a little more water before serving.

Recipe Variations

  • Change up the fruit. Add chopped apple, replace the peaches with other stone fruit like nectarines or plums, or use lemon slices instead of limes. I wouldn’t skip the berries because they make it feel so summery and taste delicious soaked in the wine. The oranges also add wonderful citrus flavor.
  • Make it bubbly. When you serve, top your glass with a little club soda or ginger ale for fizz. If you use club soda, omit the water in the base recipe. If you use ginger ale, omit the simple syrup and sweeten to taste. Note that I don’t recommend adding these ingredients to the full pitcher at any point. You don’t want the sangria to go flat!

This white sangria is the perfect summer cocktail for a crowd! A mix of white wine, orange liqueur, and summer fruit, it's fruity, refreshing, and so easy to make. Note that this recipe tastes best after it chills overnight, so make sure to prep it a day before serving.

Ingredients

  • 3 peaches, pitted and sliced*
  • 1 small orange, thinly sliced into rounds or half-moons
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup raspberries and/or sliced strawberries
  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1 (750 mL) bottle light-bodied, dry white wine, I like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc
  • ¼ to ½ cup orange liqueur, like Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup simple syrup, or peach schnapps
  • Ice, for serving

  • In a large pitcher, place the peaches, orange, lime, berries, and mint.
  • Pour in the wine, ¼ cup orange liqueur, water, and simple syrup or peach schnapps and stir. Taste, adding more orange liqueur for a boozier sangria. Chill overnight.
  • Pour into glasses filled with ice. Garnish with fresh mint and serve.

* The peaches will brown as the sangria chills. I often add two right away for flavor and save one to add just before serving so that it stays vibrant.
