I think my love of seasonal cooking comes from all the corn on the cob I ate as a kid. In the summer, my mom served boiled corn on the cob with dinner almost every night. She’d pick it up from a farm stand nearby, so it was always super-sweet and fresh. I couldn’t get enough of it – the juicy, golden kernels coated in butter and sprinkled with salt. To this day, the thought of that summer sweet corn makes my mouth start watering.
I’ve posted recipes for steamed corn on the cob and in the past, but I’ve never shared my method for how to boil corn. I love it because it’s SO easy, and it yields the sweetest, juiciest corn on the cob you can make. The recipe is really straightforward, so I don’t have any big tips or tricks, but I will say one thing: the fresher your corn is, the better your corn on the cob will be. Enjoy!

Boiled Corn on the Cob Serving Suggestions
I love adding to tacos and salads, but whenever I’m boiling corn, I’m almost always going to eat it off the cob. The simplest way to enjoy it is with butter, salt, and pepper, but your options don’t end there. Here are a few ideas for changing it up:
- Use compound butter instead of regular butter. Any of these 4 variations would be fantastic!
- Drizzle it in a yummy sauce, like chipotle sauce or vegan ranch.
- Sprinkle it with fresh herbs. I recommend cilantro, basil, or chives.
- Spice it up. Dust it with smoked paprika or chili powder.
- Make Mexican-style corn on the cob. After boiling corn, brush it with adobo sauce from a can of chipotles and top it with crumbled Cotija cheese.
Let me know what variations you try!

Round out the meal with cookout fare like veggie burgers, black bean burgers, or BBQ jackfruit sandwiches and a fresh summer salad. Or, serve your cooked corn on the cob as a side dish with whatever you’d like!

Love your recipes❣️ want to share how I cook fresh corn on the cob: husk, remove silks (wipe with paper towel helps get silks off),then I place in pot of cold water covering the corn, bring to a boil, cover and turn burner off. When dinner is ready the corn is hot and perfectly tender. I put nothing on the corn and all I taste is sweet tender corn. sometimes a little sprinkle of salt if menu low sodium. of course the corn must be super fresh! used to butter it, which now realize was loving the butter. Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your method! I love eating corn plain too. It’s so good on its own.
I don’t enjoy killing anything, but when I do, it’s corn. This recipe is where corn goes to die…with honor.
Useful and super clear. A necessity for the kitchen
I always considered myself a pro at boiling corn, but oh my goodness, this is the best corn I’ve ever made! I did add some sugar and I was completely amazed! For my topping I did a stick of butter, a teaspoon of hot taco seasoning a tablespoon of mayonnaise and fresh finely pulsed parmesan. Seriously I can’t stop eating this! Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Easiest way: Remove almost all husks, or, if already naked, wrap with a wet paper towel. Microwave 2-3 minutes per ear. Cool some, remove husks or paper towels, butter them up, add salt and enjoy. Easy, peasy. and delicious! Ten stars.
I add some crawfish boil while cooking.
3-5 minutes?! It’s taking at least 35+ minutes for mine to even remotely soften in boiling water. 🙁
I fixed the corn from this recipe and it’s great. Tastes very good and so easy. Thanks Love & Lemons! Really love your site and recipes on it!
Hi Stephanie, so glad you enjoyed the corn and that you’ve been loving other recipes too!
Love your recipes!! I love brushing pesto on our corn on the cob!! Huge hit at parties!! Pesto and corn made for each other!!
Thanks. I never thought to look for a recipe when I bought my first corn cobs. Having got all the silk off them I just put them in a pot of water that only just covered them, brought the water to the boil, removed the cobs from the water, put them on a plate, stabbed each end with cob holders and slathered them with plenty of butter. I then sunk my teeth into one of them. Heaven. I guess I like them virtually uncooked?
The corn turned out to be just perfect!
Your corn’s corny if it needs anything more than salt, pepper & butter. No question.
Prepare my corn on the cob exactly the same way as you do, Jeanine.
I do like eating mine plain. Tastes so sweet. Nothing additional needed for my taste buds.
