Balsamic Vinaigrette Recipe Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this balsamic dressing recipe:

  • Balsamic vinegar – It fills the dressing with bold, sweet, and tangy flavor.
  • Extra-virgin olive oil – It gives the dressing body and richness.
  • Dijon mustard – For extra tang.
  • Honey or maple syrup – It mellows the acidity of the mustard and balsamic.
  • Garlic – For sharp, savory depth of flavor.
  • And salt and pepper – To make all the flavors pop!

Whisking vinegar in small bowl while pouring in olive oil

You can make this balsamic dressing two ways: in a small bowl or in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.

If you’re making it in a bowl, whisk together the vinegar, honey, mustard, garlic, salt, and pepper. Then, drizzle in the olive oil while whisking continuously. When the dressing is emulsified, season to taste.

If you want to make the dressing in a jar, add all the ingredients (oil included!), and secure the lid. Shake vigorously until the dressing is emulsified. So easy!

I made a lot of dressing and spent a lot of money on ingredients. My husband and I tasted it before serving and we both feel sick from the garlic aftertaste.

Oh, my goodness right now! I had no idea it was so easy to make your own balsalmic vinaigrette!!!
I followed the recipe exactly, using quality ingredients that I had ALL of, on hand. This was literally the best dressing I have ever tasted!
I used it on a bed of spring mix and spinach with granny smith apples, gorgonzola, candied pecans & bacon.
    Soooo good! Thank you!

The two teaspoons of Dijon mustard made the recipe a bit pungent to my liking. I tried again replacing it with stoneground mustard. Worked for me!

I have made this a few times as written and its very good. Today I altered the recipe a tiny bit because i didnt have enough olive oil. I Swapped the olive oil for avocado oil and did a little less salt and it turned out great. I am not a huge fan of the taste of olive oil. I will definitely keep this substitution for the future. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
